Russian ministry favors delaying switch to Euro-5 engines to ‘18
MOSCOW, Aug 10 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry has supported the idea of Russian car makers to delay a switch to production of engines meeting the Euro-5 emission standards until January 1, 2018 from the currently scheduled January 1, 2016, a representative for the ministry told PRIME on Monday.
“The Industry and Trade Ministry has supported the initiative of Russian car equipment producers to delay the deadline for ecological class 5 demands over commercial transport to January 1, 2018 in order to decrease costs and maintain competitive prices for domestic car industry’s production and purchasing power of the ultimate consumer,” the representative said.
A corresponding draft of the Eurasian Economic Commission’s Council amending its technical regulations has been developed and sent for coordination. The draft is to be studied by the Eurasian Economic Union’s countries – Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan – so that the countries are able to develop a unified position on the issue, the representative added.
